Bob Vine, Aotearoa New Zealand

Welcome – I’m Bob, and this website is a place to gather the threads of a life well lived.

Over the years I have worn many hats – through career, family, sport, and a deep interest in genealogy. Each has shaped who I am, and each continues to provide stories worth sharing. This site brings those strands together in one place.

Here you will find reflections on my working life, memories and milestones from family, thoughts on the sports that have inspired me, and explorations into the people and histories that came before us. I am also gradually adding chapters from MY Life – a book to be written piece by piece, with new sections appearing as they are completed.

Think of this as an open journal – part memoir. part record, part conversation.

I’m glad you are here.

Memorable moment from Bob’s 80th Birthday Bash

Former Hutt Old Boys Marist Rugby Football Club President, Peter McGuinness, taking the piss on the fact that my Club, Upper Hutt, had never won the Jubilee Cup, awarded to the Winners of the Wellington RF Union’s Premier Grade competition, presents me with a 2007 Jubilee Cup Medal presented to his Club.

My immediate response was to ask, “should I wear it in bed?”

84 year young Dick Woollett (aka Biggus Dickus), former Grand Cock of the Pheasant Pluckers Society, who had for some unknown reason been hovering on the fringe, immediately joins the fray and brought the house down with “If you score, I will borrow it!”.

PS McGuinness should be reminded that Upper Hutt only needs to win the Jubilee Cup once and it will be on equal terms with HOBM.
